Interested in the hub that makes Bravo TV’s hit show Top Design tick.  This behemoth of style has announced the completion of the final building on the Pacific Design Centers WeHo campus.

Today’s ground breaking ceremony for the third and final building in Charles Cohen’s Pacific Design Center (PDC)’s campus, RED, the 400,000 sq. ft. ultra-modern keystone of Cesar Pelli’s iconic trio of opaque glass buildings marks a historic moment and completion of a generational cycle.  The new addition, consists of two state-of-the-art office towers, six and eight stories high respectively, sitting atop seven levels of enclosed parking capable of accommodating 1,500 cars.

“Each figure is different, but they are all following the same rhythm, the same music, and they move to the same compass.  These three buildings will be such a dance together around a wonderful public space.”  Cesar Pelli told AIArchitect Magazine that, taken as a group, “Each one of these three buildings works within the same vocabulary, but they create quite different forms. They are like three girls dancing.

We haven’t had anything decidedly Cesar Pelli since the erection of the World Financial Center buildings and it’s a shame that NY’s version of the PDC, and the design and wholesale purchasing services it provides are locked away in an office tower on the UES.  This is precisely the forward thinking this city should make mandatory of any new home/office/retail complex design. Yes, it took WeHo and the developers 31 Years to complete the PDC;  but if we expand Javits and the Far Westside then, ???????????, Duh?

Let’s start with the plan to turn the Westside piers into beachfront. Shouldn’t they at least anchor it with an arts center as envisioned by Frank Gehry?  Think of it as Bilboa by the sea.
